Hey everyone. I am selling some of my nature-themed mandalas for $10 each and here they are: Come and see them! ;)

Hello everyone. I just want to discuss and expose something that has been kept hidden from media for a very long time. In 2003, Taiji, Japan's biggest secret began unraveling in front the whole world: its dolphin slaughtering industry. More footage has been released since then. Every year, from September to March, fisherman in Taiji gather in a large cove and rally 23,000 dolphins and porpoises. Not very many people are aware of the truth behind the dolphin slaughtering, especially other citizens in Japan. In the past, animal activists have tried to walk down the cove and document what happens down there. But the fisherman harass the cameramen with signs saying "No photos!" and push them, get into their private space, yell at them, and other rude behavior. They're seemly afraid to bring their secret killing to public media because Taiji doesn't want their slaughter industry to shut down. Part of the slaughter goes like this: The fishermen use boats to rally the dolphins and porpoises towards the beach. Once near shore, people on the beach pick out dolphins to sell to aquariums and zoos. The rest of them are then carried to a hidden cove on the shoreline and slaughtered for market. Such a cruel act! Luckily, wildlife organization activists have begun using tactics to document, reveal, and stop the secret killing. Even activists get themselves into risky situations to prevent these slaughters and captures, such as arrest. The Japanese fishermen say that killing dolphins in a national tradition, but the real reason: they're collecting personal profits! This might matter to the townspeople of Taiji, but money doesn't matter at all to dolphin lovers like me! What matters to us is the freedom of those wonderful creatures! I just so want to get this brutal act of dolphin slaughtering and capturing to an end, once and for all! I may have sounded mad in the last paragraph, but it's very devastating that these intelligent and beautiful mammals are being killed and sold in market for personal profits. There's even more to this story, but I can't explain it all on this blog post. If you want to learn more, you can click on these links: http://www.seashepherd.org/cove-guardians/ http://savejapandolphins.org/about-us/ http://www.zvents.com/olympia_wa/events/show/207759765-save-japan-dolphins-day-2011-olympia-wa The "Save Japan Dolphins" day happens every year on September 1st in Olympia to protest against the dolphin killing. See the link above if you are interested in participating in this protest march. Until then, you can check out those links above or watch "The Cove", a 2009 documentary about the Taiji dolphins and how their secret slaughter affects the environment and people alone. It may contain kind of disturbing images of the dolphins, but it's worth watching. Anyone who is an activist, or devotes their love to dolphins is welcome to participate in saving them. Hey. I wanted to show you Jack Johnson's website. For those of you who don't know who he is, Jack is a famous musician and surfer living in Hawaii. This link talks about how Jack Johnson and his crew go green through their live tours and concerts. They also don't use single use plastic water bottles on their tours and instead use refillable water bottles. This is amazing that there are celebrities and musicians out there like Jack Johnson who care about our planet. You should do the same and provide a healthy, clean planet. The picture above is an artwork piece of a kid lifting up the Pacific Ocean, expecting to see the beautiful creatures in the water, only to see plastic trash and bottles instead. I feel sad and angry that the world's largest ocean is in danger. If you feel the same, help out at beach cleaning today or go green like Jack Johnson. To see the link, click here: http://jackjohnsonmusic.com/greening/2012/ Happy Earth Day everyone! I wanted to let everyone know that my family and I have decided that to celebrate Earth Day, we will create an environmental action plan. In this case, my family and I will try to become greener people by eating no meat on Wednesdays and not using our car on Sundays. I encourage you to follow the same path because if you stopped using your car for a day, you could avoid having six pounds of carbon dioxide per gallon of gas go up into the air and save money as well. Alternates to travelling by car are biking, walking, ordering things online, taking city transit, and sharing a vehicle with other people. Doing these simple routines can reduce greenhouse gases warming the planet and save you money too.
Please reduce your carbon footprint with meat and cars today and listen to the beauty of nature and chirping of birds. HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!! Here are some helpful websites: http://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/International.htm http://www.globalwarmingsolutions.org/ Hey. Mom found this news article and suggested it to me as a post for you all to read.
Click on the website below: http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2011/06/17/137249264/organic-pesticides-not-an-oxymoron?sc=fb&cc=fp Hey. It's Brianna, with a new subject to talk about this week. I am currently taking environmental science in school as a class, which is a field of science that studies human impacts on the environment and how we can solve the environmental problems caused by human activity. It pretty much relates to climate change and global warming in some ways. It has become my favorite class of all because I am learning so much from it about our impact on the environment.
One topic that my class was studying about earlier this week was toxins, how they get into the food chain, and how people living in the Arctic are affected by toxins. My class watched this video about effects of toxins in the environment and at the beginning, it mentioned a phenomenon known as "The Grasshopper Effect". The Grasshopper Effect is when all kinds of different pollutants evaporate into the air from heavy industrial factories and they reach the Arctic when the clouds full of evaporated toxins are blown to the north by winds. Then, the pollutants in the clouds fall to the ground as rain or snow once they reach the Arctic. The toxic rain then falls into the oceans and become small particles of nutrients that get eaten up by plankton, which get eaten by fish and the toxins eventually go up the food chain until they reach the predator: people. When the seals eat the toxic fish and Inuit people in Alaska hunt the seal and eat the meat with concentrations of pollutants. This causes the people to get lots of toxic concentrations inside their bodies. Among those that eat the toxic meat, the ones that are most affected are the women and their babies because when pollutants hidden inside the seal meat get into a woman's body, her breast milk becomes concentrated with toxins. Then her child that drinks the toxic milk cannot get all the nutrients and formula needed to grow strong and healthy because the child's body isn't as strong as their mother's body. This makes it more easy for the baby to get affected by the pollutants and far more intensely. In fact, about 90% of Inuit children have levels of elevated lead inside their bodies. In children's brains, there are veins that help them think properly and be healthy as they develop through time. If they get run with toxins like lead or mercury, their brains are damaged and not make the kid's brain think properly. When this happens, it causes the child to become antisocial and have behavorial issues, maybe like autism. At the end of the movie, I was so amazed and interested in everything I had learned that I decided to share it on my blog. We should stop using factories that make the pollutants go into the air towards the native people of the Arctic. Take action today to stop the toxic pollution in the clouds! See you later, Brianna |
